Oberammergau and the Passion Play

The story says that in 1633, residents of the town of Oberammergau, Germany vowed to God that if He spared them from the plague, they would reenact the crucifixion of Christ in the Passion Play once every ten years. Not one resident of Oberammergau died from the plague after this vow was made.

More than 400 years later, this tradition is still upheld, believed to be preserving the health and well-being of the residents. In 2020, Globus will help travelers connect to their faith by offering several itineraries that include Oberammergau’s Passion Play experience.
